We have way to much stuff. I’ve been going around my house for months now thinking that I need to rearange things, organize, and optimize space. Ive been thinking that our 3,000 sq ft house is to small for our family of 4 and we need a bigger house. Um correction. We have to much stuff, there is no good reason for a family of 4 not to fit into 3,000 sq ft, and I’m a hoarder. Anyone else with me?
So my goal for the next few weeks is to start going through EVERYTHING, every room, every closet, every square inch of our home (including my beloved junk
drawer cabinet). I’m tired of feeling so attached to items that I don’t need and I want to start leading a much simpler lifestyle.
I put together a list of ways to optimize your space and to declutter and I plan on sticking to this in every room of the house until I’m done.
No maybe pile.
Sentimental value? If not, it goes.
After each room is complete, take the donate pile to a local shelter, and list the high ticket items for sale. Trash or recycle everything else before moving on to the next room.
Mount all TV’s and hide cords.
Get rid of any unnecessary furniture, lamps, rugs, decor, etc.
Label everything that is in a box.
Get rid of all DVD’s. We NEVER use them.
File and organize all paperwork that cant be put in files on the computer.
Clean out the computer and backup all pictures. Update any software thats needed.
Put all seasonal decor in bins and label them for the garage.
Organize and prioritize all office and school supplies.
Donate all clothing that no longer fits.
Organize closets by season/color/clothing sytle.
Toss any toys that are missing parts.
Downsize on stuffed animals that are not used often or have no sentimental value to the kids or I.
Get rid of any duplicate toys.
Sell all baby items that are no longer being used (bouncer, swing, bumbo, play mat, boppy, wrap, sling).
Think about how often toys are being played with. If rarely get any use then toss.
Get rid of access blankets. No need to keep every comforter we have ever owned.
Seriously why do we have so many blankets.
Get rid of cleaning supplies you never use anymore (steamer for us).
Toss old sunscreen, bug spray, bubbles, expired medicine, serving wear, etc.
Collect all reusable bags and nicely fold and organize them into one small pile.
Label all remaining baskets of items and organize closets.
Donate all clothing and shoes that have not been worn in the last year.
Organize remaining clothes.
There are so many advantages to decluttering. I’ll be donating a ton of stuff to local shelters, selling a few high ticket items, and decluttering my mind while I’m at it. Let the downsizing begin!
Who’s with me? Are you in the need of a downsize?
